1. Tournament Format
  1. Captain’s Choice – Each player in the foursome tees off, each player proceeds to the team’s best ball as selected by the captain and each player hits from the location of the best ball, and so on for each shot until the ball is in the cup. The team score for each hole is how many “best shots” were needed. Each team will play 18 holes of golf.
  2. Until the team’s best ball is on the green, each player may hit from a lie (hand placed) within one club’s length of the best ball, no nearer the hole. However, if the best ball is in a hazard, the rough, or off the green, the lie may not be improved from these conditions.
  3. Before play begins, each player may purchase two mulligans for $5 each, which may be used by that player at any time throughout the round, Mulligans may not be used to win any of the closest to the pin or longest drive contests. No refunds on unused mulligans.
  4. If any putts are tapped in prior to all four players putting the previous putt, the score on the tap-in will be the score that counts. There are no gimme’s allowed.
  5. Men play from the white tees and women from the red.
  6. To maintain pace of play, limit searches for lost balls to one minute.
  7. No practice shots or practice putts.

2. Scoring
Most non-professional golf tournaments are held as twosome events where one twosome team is paired up with another twosome team. Each twosome keeps the score of the other twosome. However, our event is a foursome event and it is expected that teams embrace the spirit of the game and play the game as it should be. The foursome’s format also ensures that players play with their buddies and this is how we have played this tournament since it started.

There’s a possibility however, that we may play the twosome format the next time to promote fairness and to give people an opportunity to network with other like-minded golfers.

So this time, the scoring is straight-forward. The team with the lowest score in their flight wins the tournament. Ties for 1st place, 2nd place, only will be broken by a scorecard playoff, beginning with the net score on back 9 then the front 9, if it is still a tie than score on number one handicapped hole and so on. In the event of a tie after all of above, a putt out will be in effect.

3. Rules

USGA Rules of Golf shall govern play, with the following local rules and exceptions.

  1. Players may improve their lie by one club length, not closer to the hole, in fairways, rough, and bunkers. This does not include water hazards or lateral water hazards, where the original ball must be played as it lies and the other balls placed in as close as possible to the same lie and position.
  2. The 14 club limit has been waived.
  3. The one-ball rule is not in effect.
  4. If you can't help your team off the tee, pick up.

The Rules Committee (Prasad and Rajaji) have final say on all rules decisions.
